Feeling Overwhelmed

Too much...
Everything is too much...
There is too much everything...

Too much to do, too much to say, too much to feel and absolutely too much to prove.

The mountain of 'much' at the foothills of which your life exists, is made of slate, and even if you find the energy to power your body to take another step up, the slate slides on itself further back than before, and now you're even more exhausted because you tried, again.

Nature

You've begged the universe for just a tiny break so you can catch your breath..

Because part of the mountain of 'much' is that there are people counting on you to function, and they have no idea that you are so full you can barely breathe.

My overwhelmed clients are often some of the strongest and most capable women

I've found that all I need to do is create the conditions for them to step away from the mountain and be present, for them to figure out the rest themselves. (Often leaving me questioning if I ever needed to be there in the first place.)

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, often the most beneficial use of our hour is simply 'to be'.

To exist in that one hour that is only yours. It can be a challenge though, even in a therapeutic hour in which you are spending your time, money, and energy specifically for your own mental health, to let go of the mountain. Especially if children or other dependents are a part of the picture. For you, I see my job as being the responsible adult. For this hour, I will advocate for you to briefly park the mountain, so that you can eventually be fully present with the moment and maybe feel that tightness in your chest slowly unwind and let a breath in, meeting the needs of the 'creature of you'.

Ironically, this act is likely the most beneficial thing you can do for those you love, because you becoming the best version of yourself, or even increasing your capacity for joy, affords those who love you the chance to see you smile, to see you laugh, to see you passionately engage with an interest that's got zero benefit but your joy.
