Feeling stuck

Feeling ‘stuck’ is one of the common reasons people contact me. It’s regularly not some huge life crisis or trauma, they might not be able to pinpoint one, or even multiple, specific things that are ‘wrong’. They just know that their life feels like it’s frozen in time, and yet it’s also slipping by at a rate that terrifies them, as they see long days, form into short years and even shorter decades.

For many women, 'stuckness' is no mystery

It's the slow accumulation of years spent saying ‘yes’ when we meant no. Taking on roles we never consciously chose, such as organiser, caretaker, the one who holds everything together. Somewhere along the way, our own wants got quiet. Our creative life, our pleasures, the parts of us that used to feel alive got pushed to the back. And now we’re stuck. Not because we’re weak. But because we've been living a life we never consciously chose. (This is not to say that Men don’t have some equivalent to this, I’m just not a man, and I don’t know your pain if you are.)

Exiting the life of stuckness

The exit from a life of ‘stuckness’, is one of my favourite things to work with, because it is such a gentle and cute journey of attuning to the core of your being. It’s testing out different joys and pleasures, to see what joys and pleasures are joys and pleasures to ‘the creature of you’ specifically. Like a fish or a house plant, we need to find out the specific conditions in which you thrive.

Are you a rose in alkaline soil? Are you a freshwater fish in salt!! The simple shift from alkaline to acidic soil, will have the rose flourishing and taking over the garden, similar to the fish that will absolutely die in salt water that will be perfectly happy and healthy in fresh water. In the beginning, these don’t have to be huge life changes; they can be simple and easy fixes. The challenge is in finding out what you are and what you need.

Thankfully, the process is fun, and you don’t have to drink salt water to find out.
